I've been doing some cleanup of my various chat networks, bringing my #matrix account back to a self-hosted instance, and tuning my #xmpp server. And while I'm at taking #deltachat for a more serious run. Maybe it'll be less friction for some.
Likely a result of recent Slack shenanigans, the pressure on the matrix.org server is a good reminder of why I should just run my own #matrix instance. It also just adds to my appreciation of how much nicer it is to run and use #xmpp.
I really wish emergency services would stop relying solely on xtwitter and bookface for sharing important information and incident updates. At least provide a public feed via rss or even just an accessible web site.
@peemee I know there are some agencies in the US that does emergency alerts in other avenues such as apps, websites and RSS, not enough do. That's a major problem having one centralized way to do so.
I finally got around to trying out #slidge (https://sr.ht/~nicoco/slidge/) on my #xmpp server to connect up a few of those other chat services and I gotta say I'm really impressed.
No Google, your in app ad service is not allowed to have my precise location. I don’t care if the app your ads are inserted into does for this session.

I see the new #Signal app has landed on my phone. I'm happy they are starting to do things better by hiding your phone number and letting you share a username. But I wonder if it'll be enough to increase my use of the app. 🤔
